The Handover
C major and D major alternate, a bar each at 50bpm. You play the chord on every beat and hold the pedal right through the bar. At each barline, do these three things in order:
- Play the new chord and lift the pedal at the same instant.
- Put the pedal straight back down — after the chord, not with it.
- Only then let go of the keys. The pedal has to be down first, or it holds nothing.
No MIDI keyboard connected — you can still play the chords on your computer keyboard and pedal with the spacebar. A real keyboard and sustain pedal make the gesture far easier to feel, because both hands stay free.
No pedal detected
You'll pedal with the spacebar, which is on or off only. Connect a MIDI sustain pedal and this measures it automatically.
This session: legato and rhythmic pedalling. Half-pedalling is left out.
Needs a sustain pedal — a physical MIDI pedal, the spacebar, or the on-screen Sustain toggle. A pedal that reports how far down it is unlocks half-pedalling in Pedal only; measure yours above and the session matches what it can actually do.
