About
What is Dorehme?
Dorehme (from do-re-mi, read out of the domain doreh.me) is a free piano learning platform. It combines a structured lesson curriculum, a rhythm-based performance game, a music theory reference, and a sheet music editor — everything a beginner or advancing pianist needs, in one place. It works with any MIDI keyboard, or just your laptop. Free to start, no credit card.
The four features
Learn
Structured lessons from first note to full pieces
The Learn is Dorehme's graded curriculum. Everyone starts on the Foundation track — eight sequential modules that build the fundamentals: keyboard layout, note reading, rhythm, hand position, and dynamics. Once Foundation is complete, the Classical and Modern/Jazz tracks unlock in parallel, letting you follow whichever repertoire style fits your taste.
Progress is gated by Boss Battles — mastery checkpoints that confirm you've absorbed each section before moving on. Ear Training and Theory modules are woven in at the points where they're most relevant rather than siloed into separate courses. Day streaks and a Level system keep momentum visible across sessions.
Open the Learn →Rhythm
Play pieces and compete for the top spot
The Rhythm is Dorehme's performance mode. Choose a piece, play it on your keyboard or the on-screen keys, and receive a 0–100 score based on timing accuracy, velocity, and note completeness. A per-piece leaderboard tracks the top performers for every song — compete to hold the top spot, or work on beating your own personal best.
A separate Sight Reading Drill generates random scrolling sheet music to push fluency beyond prepared repertoire. The Rhythm is completely free to play and requires no account — try it directly from the browser.
Try the Rhythm →Why Dorehme exists
Piano learning has too much friction. Dorehme removes it.
Most piano learning tools are expensive, subscription-heavy, or built assuming you already have a teacher. The self-learning path is full of barriers: before you ever play a note, you need an instrument, a tutor, and a clear sense of where to start — none of which is obvious. Even with resources available, it's easy to miss fundamental techniques or skip steps that only matter later.
Dorehme is free to start and works on a laptop without any physical equipment (a MIDI keyboard helps, but isn't required). The curriculum gives beginners a structured, gated path so nothing important gets skipped. And the Rhythm exists on the belief that the best way to make someone care about piano is to make it immediately fun — competing on a leaderboard or completing every piece in the library is a better on-ramp than running scales in isolation.
Dorehme was built by Breanzy — a solo developer who loves piano and wants more people to discover why.

Dorehme's main sheet music rendering engine is alphaTab, an open-source music-notation library, used under the Mozilla Public License 2.0. It powers Play, the Sight Reading Drill, and the Piano Editor's Scroll mode.
