Privacy Policy

Your data, plainly explained.

Last updated: August 5, 2026

Dorehme is a free piano learning platform. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it. We collect only what's needed to make the service work. Most of Dorehme can be used without an account — no personal data is collected from guest users.

What we collect

Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address and, optionally, your name. This is handled by Clerk, our authentication provider. We never see or store your password directly.

Progress data. We record your lesson completions, exercise attempts, boss battle results, day streaks, and badge unlocks so your progress persists across devices and sessions.

Rhythm scores. When you complete a scored piece, your score is stored in our database so you can track your own personal bests. Cross-user leaderboards are currently restricted to admin accounts only — your scores are not shown publicly.

Saved sheets. Sheet music you create or import in the Piano Editor is stored in our database and is private to your account.

Age band, for the Teacher/Roster feature. If you redeem a Roster Code to link with a teacher, we ask whether you are 13 or older. This is used solely to determine whether parental consent is required for that link — it is never collected for any other reason, and users who don't use this feature are never asked.

What we don't collect

We do not collect payment information — Dorehme is free to use. We do not run advertising trackers. We do not sell your data to any third party, ever.

If you use the Sight Reading Drill as a guest, your session settings and skill progress are saved only in your browser's local storage and never reach our servers. If you're signed in, that same progress is also saved to our database so it carries over between devices.

How we use your data

Your data is used solely to provide Dorehme's features: saving your lesson progress, tracking your streak, recording your scores, and restoring your session when you return. We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.

Lawful basis for processing

For users in the European Union, we process your data under the following lawful bases as defined by the GDPR:

  • Contract performance — account information and progress data are processed to deliver the service you signed up for.
  • Legitimate interest— rhythm scores are stored to show your own personal bests, and a linked teacher's access to a student's progress is limited to what's needed to support that student's learning.

Third-party services

Dorehme relies on a small number of trusted infrastructure providers:

  • Clerk — handles account creation, authentication, and session management. Your email and login credentials are stored with Clerk. Clerk Privacy Policy →
  • Neon — a serverless Postgres database where your progress, scores, and sheets are stored. Neon Privacy Policy →
  • Vercel — hosts Dorehme and serves all pages and API routes. Vercel Privacy Policy →
  • OpenAI — when you import sheet music from a photo or PDF in the Piano Editor, that image is sent to OpenAI to transcribe it into notes. We only send the image you choose to import. OpenAI Privacy Policy →
  • Sentry— used to capture error reports so we can fix bugs. Error reports may include technical context like the page you were on, but not your password or payment details (we don't collect the latter at all). Sentry Privacy Policy →

The Acoustic Piano listening mode (used to detect notes played on a real instrument via your microphone) runs entirely on your own device. Audio from your microphone is never uploaded to us or to any third party.

Teachers and students

Dorehme offers an optional feature that lets a student link their account to a teacher using a Roster Code. Once linked, that teacher can see the student's assignments, progress, and any notes the teacher writes about the student. This information is not shared with anyone else.

If a student indicates they are under 13, we require a parent or guardian to confirm the link before it becomes active. This parental-consent pathway is still in development and is not yet available to real users — today, linking a student under 13 to a teacher is not possible on Dorehme.

Your rights

You can request a copy of your data, ask us to correct inaccurate information, or ask us to delete your account and all associated data at any time. To do so, email info@doreh.me.

Your scores are visible only to you (and to a linked teacher, if you have one) — cross-user leaderboards are currently admin-only. Deleting your account removes all of your score entries.

Cookies

See our Cookie Policy for details on the cookies Dorehme uses and how to control them.

Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of Australia, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Users in the European Union also have rights under the GDPR as described above.

Dorehme is available globally and isn't built around any single country's userbase. Wherever you're located, we aim to honor the data protection rights your local law gives you, even where this policy doesn't name that law specifically.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the platform evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects when it last changed. Continued use of Dorehme after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
